Liposuction has come a long way since the first time this procedure was first performed in the early 1970s. Of the types of liposuction done today, the dry method has fallen largely out of favor due to its higher incidence of complications and side effects.
Among the difficulties with the dry method was the amount of blood loss which almost always required transfusion to replace blood volume.
In addition, patients required hospitalization because of extreme pain and slower healing. This increased the cost of the procedure greatly.
