One piece of used gym equipment that suits a dual purpose is a used elliptical trainer.  Ellipticals are machines combining the benefits of stair climbers and treadmills.  In some places, you can find this form of used gym equipment for roughly $2000 or so.  Elliptical trainers place the user in an upright position, using the handles to go either forwards or backwards. A great workout – which you can achieve at a reduced price.  Used elliptical machines are the way to go.
